About The Beautiful City of Tyler!
Tyler, Texas, which is also know as the Rose Capital of America is located in the North-Eastern corner of Texas, in Smith County. Names after John Tyler (10th) President of the United States), this town of 100,000 people enjoy the great Texas weather pretty much all year long. Tyler is the county seat of Smith County and is surrounded by several small towns, Lindale, Whitehouse, Chandler, Bullard, Flint, Chapel Hill and Troup. Tyler lies approximately 100 miles from Dallas, Texas and 100 miles from Shreveport, Louisiana. The area in and around Tyler is green most of the year and has several lakes including Lake Tyler and Lake Tyler East as well as Lake Palestine.
There are many attractions for both adults and children. Among them are: museums, wineries, wildlife, historical, entertainment, music and theater, lakes and family recreation, agriculture and farms.
The famous Rose Festival is held every October beginning with the Queen’s Tea, Coronation and ending with the Rose Parade. The pageantry is out of this world and adults and children come from all over to enjoy the festivities.
In the spring, the Tyler area is turned into a magnificent garden of spring flowers. People come by bus loads to see the gorgeous flowers. We call it the Annual Azalea Trails, usually in April or May each year.
Tyler is home to Tyler Junior College, Texas College and the University of Texas at Tyler as well as great medical facilities, including Trinity Mother Frances Hospital, East Texas Medical Center, University of Texas Health Center and Texas Spine and Joint Hospital.
Tyler is an excellent retirement city. Shopping, places to worship, golf courses, lakes and wonderful state-of-the-art medical facilities are some of the many coinveniencies of living in a retirement community.
Tyler is a growing city, but remains a small town at heart. It is a city of heart.
